Compaction Control using Nuclear Density Gauge (NDG)

Compaction of pavements layer is one of the most critical parameter monitored in the Highway Projects. Nuclear Density Gauge (NDG) is a safe, quick and reliable alternative method to measure the in-situ density and percentage moisture for soil and bituminous materials. NDG gives the direct display for the wet density, dry density, moisture percentage and compaction percentage, providing all the key data required by the QA/QC personnel at the site.

We have over ten years experience of using the NDG for compaction control of various materials in

The test system conforms to the guidelines as laid in the ASTM D6938-10 standard.

Gain of Strength in Stabilized Soils

There has been a growing emphasis on the use of chemical stabilizers to improve the properties of the soil to achieve the required strength. Significant change in strength of soil may or may not be related to an appreciable change in density of the material but is reflected by a significant change in Stiffness of the structure.

Humboldt make GeoGauge is an advanced test method to quickly estimate the stiffness and young’s modulus of the soil bed. Stiffness measures the property of the bed to resist the deflection of the structure because of traffic loads. The Stiffness and Modulus of the soil bed can also be used to determine the in-situ CBR of the soil bed.

GeoGauge is used to monitor the strength gain over a period of time due to the use of chemical stabilizers.

Avantech Engineering Consortium has undertaken several projects to monitor and access the gain in strength of soil beds in collaboration with manufacturers of stabilizing agents.

The test method conforms to ASTM D6758-08 guidelines.

Core Sampling

Core samples are taken in the field from both flexible (bituminous) and rigid (concrete) pavements to check for the depth of bituminous and concrete layers. The coring machine is anchored to the pavement and the core withdrawn for visual inspection as well as to test for other critical parameters in the highway projects.

Bitumen Content Test

Bitumen acts as a binder and a water proofing layer in flexible pavements. The bitumen content is very critical for the performance of bitumen pavements.

Bitumen content estimation using ignition method is a safe and quick alternate to solvent analysis.

The method conforms to ASTM D6307-10 guidelines.
